Featuring a collection of 51 Chinese paintings, 37 Japanese paintings, and 1 Korean painting, this special sale features esteemed provenances, including renowned names like Felix Tikotin, John le Carre, Dr. Wou Kiuan, Teddy Hahn, and Adolphe Stoclet, in addition to several prestigious private collections.
Among many remarkable pieces, a notable highlight of this sale includes lot 34: Soga Shohaku (1730-1781): an important set of five scroll paintings with birds of prey, hailing from the collection of Felix Tikotin. Soga Shohaku was a renowned Japanese artist during the mid-Edo period known for his expertise in creating ink monochrome portraits. Numerous works by Soga Shohaku are now displayed in prestigious museums like the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Kimbell Art Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Another standout lot of this auction is lot 72: Li Xiongcai (1910-2001): Bamboo rafts on the river of springtime. This 20th century painting by Li Xiongcai is portrayed in exquisite colors of red and verdigris, highlighting a dark forest and towering mountains.
