A LARGE WOOD NETSUKE OF A SARUMAWASHI (MONKEY TRAINER)

Japan, late 18th to early 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)
Finely carved as a monkey trainer wearing a voluminous robe, holding a long taming stick in one hand, the other hand supporting the monkey seated on his shoulder. The face of the sarumawashi is carved expressively with large eyes and a wide smile. Large, generously excavated himotoshi to the back.
HEIGHT 9.2 cm
Condition: Overall good condition with old wear and the feet replaced. The wood has a warm, smooth patina which darkens in the recesses.
Provenance: From an Italian private collection, acquired from Pierre-Eric Becker, Cannes, on 28 February 1996.

- Bidders must complete their due diligence and clarify all questions about the objects before the auction. After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
- A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
- A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.
