Japan, 19th century
The tsuba lacquered in black, and the habaki of copper with vertical filing marks. The fuchi, kashira, kurigata, and kojiri of copper decorated with sinuous dragons amid crashing waves. The menuki cast as sinuous dragons. The tsuka handle covered in rayskin wrapped in dark green textile. The saya lacquered in a deep red and black with a dense swirling pattern.
Total LENGTH 45.8 cm (the koshirae)
Condition: Good condition, some wear, the tsuba with some losses to the rim and a small crack. The kozuka missing. The saya with few small lacquer flakes, and minor age cracks.
