China, c. 1900s. Of flattened ovoid form tapering towards the foot and surmounted by a short, waisted neck. The stone of a pale green tone with apple green patches, cloudy white inclusions, and translucent veins.
Provenance: Collection of David Billings and Beverly Hall Billings, Nantucket, MA. David, is a lifelong collector of Chinese art, having curated a collection of thousands of objects. His wife Beverly is the daughter of the seminal snuff bottle collector and scholar, late Gerry P. Mack (1911-1992). The couple opened their private museum housing a great selection of Asian antiques, including porcelains, snuff bottles, and textiles from the Qing dynasty. Recently, the couple collaborated with the Nantucket Historical Association Whaling Museum to exhibit a comprehensive show named ‘Asian Treasures from The Billings Collection’. The Billings further published their collection in an award-winning catalog titled ‘Passion and Pursuit: The Billings Collection’.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and little nibbling to the edges and rims. The stone with natural imperfections and fissures.
