India, Rajasthan. Opaque watercolors, gouache, and gold on paper. Finely painted with Krishna and Radha seated on a terrace. Krishna gently plucks a stray flower that has fallen on Radha’s hair as she looks down coyly. Both are dressed in fine robes and richly adorned with ornate jewelry. The background with four lush, towering trees under a dark sky with golden clouds.
Provenance: Galerie Pro Arte Kasper, Morges, Switzerland, 1978. Collection of E. M. Rimmer, acquired from the above and thence by descent. The back with a certificate of authenticity, signed by Lia Kasper, dated 22 April 1978, confirming the dating and provenance above, and inscribed in pencil to the upper margin ‘1.8K’, accompanies the lot. Galerie Pro Arte Kasper was an art gallery in Morges, Switzerland. The gallery was founded by Georges Kasper (1908-1991) in 1965, who until then had been a curator at a Zurich museum. The gallery specialized in paintings and operated for four decades, run by Georges together with his wife Lia (née Forlani).
Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear.
