Lot details

China, 475-221 BC. The pear-shaped body supported on a spreading foot, decorated with bands of scroll-filled, triangular zigzag pattern set within narrow scroll borders, the neck with a band of upright triangular blades filled with scrolls. The body set with a pair of mask handles suspending loose rings at the shoulders.

Provenance: German private collection, acquired before 2000. A private collection in the Northeastern United States, acquired from the above.
Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age. Expected old wear, minor casting flaws, scratches, dents, soil encrustations, signs of weathering and corrosion. The bronze with a superb, naturally grown, rich patina with extensive malachite and cuprite encrustation. The patina has been professionally stabilized.

After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full.   • A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
  • A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.
