Of cylindrical form with a grooved and incurved rim, finely carved with two roundels enclosing a mountainous river landscape with pavilions nestled between trees and rockwork, against a cash-diaper ground. The exterior covered in a vitreous sea-green glaze darkening in the recesses. The rim, interior, and base covered in a transparent glaze.
Provenance: Guinevere Antiques Ltd., London, United Kingdom. Dreweatts, Newbury, 23 May 2023, lot 261. A copy of the original invoice from Dreweatts, confirming the 18th century dating, stating a purchase price for the present lot of GBP 5,904 or approx. EUR 7,000 (converted and adjusted for inflation at the time of writing), accompanies this lot. Private UK Collection, acquired from the above. Guinevere is a long-lived art and antiques gallery located on London’s famous King’s Road. The business was founded by Genevieve Weaver in 1963 and to this day remains a mecca for interior designers internationally and those interested in art and antiques.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and firing flaws including minor kiln grit, dark spots, and few small firing cracks.
