A CELADON JADEITE ‘CHILONG’ BALUSTER VASE AND COVER, LATE QING DYNASTY TO REPUBLIC PERIOD

China, 1850-1949. The flattened baluster body carved in high relief with two bats flying amid scrolling clouds and a long-tailed dragon clambering atop similar clouds and exhaling a long trailing vapor terminating in a lingzhi head carved in low relief to the shoulder, flanked by a pair of phoenix-form handles suspending loose rings, below the stepped cover surmounted by a recumbent dragon finial. The semi-translucent stone of a light gray tone with shadings of pale lavender, dabs of apple-green, dark veins, and bright russet patches cleverly utilized by the lapidary to highlight the lucky bats and the head of the chilong.
Provenance: European private collection. The top of the base impressed with an inventory number, ‘A136–3’.
Condition: Excellent condition with only minor wear and few small nibbles to the edges.

- Bidders must complete their due diligence and clarify all questions about the objects before the auction. After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
- A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
- A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.
