China, 1644-1912. Supported on four elegantly curved legs, the rim surmounted by twin upright handles. Neatly chased and embossed to one side with two sinuous dragons pursuing a flaming pearl, the other with a seated bodhisattva flanked by two tantric figures, the short sides with beast masks suspending loose ring handles flanked by attendants holding a fly whisk and auspicious fruit.
Provenance: London trade.
Condition: Old wear, some warping and other manufacturing flaws, dents, losses. Several soldering marks and other repairs.

The reticulated cover similarly decorated with scrolling foliage, one side with Buddha flanked by Manjushri and Amitayus, the other with the dharma wheel flanked by an elephant and horse, the short sides with lotus blossoms, all surmounted by three flaming mandorlas, two of which suspend small foliate bells.
