China, 18th-19th century or later. Each finely potted, the bowl with deep, rounded sides rising from a short, slightly tapered foot to a gently curved rim. The exterior painted in varying shades of cobalt-blue to depict a cluster of crabs clambering up the long stems of the lotus blossoms and leaves growing alongside. The interior similarly decorated, with a central roundel and a band encircling the rim with further crabs and lotus. The recessed base with an apocryphal four-character mark in underglaze blue Chenghua Nianzhi.
The shallow dish with rounded sides supported on a short, straight foot. Similarly painted, the exterior with three Kirin galloping amid swirling clouds and waves, while the interior displays a whimsical dragon writhing through dense cloud scrolls, with an auspicious shou character centering the composition. The recessed base with a four-character mark in underglaze blue.
Provenance: Private collection in the United Kingdom.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and expected firing irregularities, including light pitting and few dark spots. Minor chips along the rims, one of which has been restored on the dish.
