Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)
Heavily cast, supported on three cabriole legs issuing from oni heads rising to rounded sides with two crouching kirin handles. The round cover with apertures along the side, topped by a large finial in the form of a seated kirin gripping a round jewel in its mouth. The body is finely cast with cranes flying among pine trees.
Condition: Good condition with wear, casting flaws, the fittings loose, and small losses to the horn of the largest kirin and to the base.
