India, 4th-1st century BC or later. Supported on a flattened base with rounded sides and everted rim. The interior is engraved with circular lines and impressed with five square frames each depicting the same figure.
Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age. Extensive wear, signs of weathering and erosion, encrustations, dents, scratches, cracks, and small losses. The bronze is covered in a naturally grown patina with vibrant malachite encrustations.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
