Provenance: From a noted private collection in Belgium.
Condition: Condition overall commensurate with age, extensive wear and losses, remnants of white slip and green pigment, erosion and natural cracks.
Dimensions: Height 46 cm, length 71 cm
Jainism flourished in Western India between the 10th and 12th centuries, with many temples commissioned under the Solanki and Later Pratihara dynasties.
Auction result comparison: Compare with a related Jain marble at Christie’s New York in Indian and Southeast Asian Art on 21 March 2007, lot 264, sold for USD 24,000.
