Southern India. Each finely cast. The bronze plaque depicts Virabhadra, the four-armed deity standing on a base within a niche, richly adorned with jewelry and holding a sword, shield, bow, and arrow in his four hands; a bronze figure of Shiva on horseback, cast in two parts; and a brass lingam cover in the form of a head, finely detailed with large, alert almond-shaped eyes, arched brows, and a prominent curled moustache.
Provenance: Collection of Françoise Leroy-Laveissière, who was an expert for Asian Art at the Cabinet Beurdeley & Leroy-Laveissière at Drouot, Paris, in the 1970s. Thence by descent in the family.
Condition: Good condition with expected wear. Tiny nicks, some dents, small losses, and casting flaws. The bronze with a naturally grown patina.
