Lot details

China, 19th century. The foot rim of each cup fitting snugly into the mouth of the corresponding warmer, all with gilt rims, the exteriors finely decorated in bright enamels with mirrored designs. The warmers with stylized flowerheads borne on leafy vines between bands of lappets and ruyi heads, the cups with butterflies fluttering amid similar floral motifs, all against a turquoise ground. (4)

Provenance: From a private collection in Finland. The base of one warmer is inscribed with an old collector’s number, ‘5054’, the other with remnants of a similar inscription.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and manufacturing irregularities, including expected pitting. Tiny losses to enamels, minor rubbing to gilt, small nicks to edges, occasional light scratches, one warmer with a small dent to the base.The interior with minor losses to enamels.

Dimensions: Height 10 cm and 9.9 cm

The interiors of the cups with lotus scroll and butterflies against a dark-blue ground to the sides, and a central butterfly surrounded by floral scroll against a lime-green ground, all below a band of ruyi heads.
