Lot details

Tibet, 19th-early 20th century. Gold and distemper on cloth. Mounted on a silk brocade frame. The eleven-headed, eight-armed bodhisattva standing atop a lotus dais rising from wavy waters within a verdant landscape with rockwork and swirling clouds. His primary hands are held together in namaskara mudra, one of the secondary hands held out in varada mudra, another in shuni mudra, and the others holding attributes including a conch, a lotus blossom, and a dharma wheel.

The deity is wearing an elaborate colorful dhoti and flowing patterned robes, richly adorned with gold jewelry, and backed by a gold mandorla. He is flanked by Mahakala to his left, and a dakini to his right, with Amitabha and the four-armed Avalokiteshvara at the top.

Inscriptions: To the reverse, ‘Om Ah Hum Hrih’.

Provenance: From an old private collection in Bavaria, Germany, assembled between 1965 and 1985. The reverse with a wax seal.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, some creasing, the brocade with few loose threads.

After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
  • A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
  • A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.
