A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE PLAQUE WITH A HUMAN FIGURE AMONG FOLIAGE, LATE QING DYNASTY OR EARLIER

China. The oval plaque carved in openwork with a small human figure dressed in voluminous robes, set against a background of scrolling tendrils and surmounted by a blossoming lotus flower. The translucent stone of an icy-white tone, accented with russet patches and cloudy inclusions.
Provenance: Daniel Milano, Paris, France, 2001. Collection of Paolo Bertuzzi, acquired from the above. A copy of the original stamped and signed certificate of authenticity from D Milano, dated 28 December 2001, dating the present lot to the late Eastern Zhou dynasty, accompanies this lot. Paolo Bertuzzi (1943-2022) was a fashion stylist from Bologna. He was the son of Enrichetta Bertuzzi, founder of Hettabretz, a noted Italian fashion company with customers such as the Rothschild family, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor. Paolo Bertuzzi later took over his mother’s business and designed exclusive pieces, some of which were exhibited in the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, USA. He was also an avid collector of antiques for more than sixty years. His collection includes both archaic and contemporary art, and he edited two important books about Asian art, Goa Made - An Archaeological Discovery, about a large-scale archaeological project carried out with the Italian and Indonesian governments, and Majapahit, Masterpieces from a Forgotten Kingdom.
Condition: Good condition with surface wear and natural imperfections. Light surface scratches, few small chips, and minute nibbling along the edges.

- Bidders must complete their due diligence and clarify all questions about the objects before the auction. After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
- A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
- A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.
