China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912). Ink on paper. Mounted as a hanging scroll on a silk brocade coated paper frame, with wooden handles. Depicting a carp with its mouth slightly ajar as it gazes intently at the viewer. Signed Shouping and Nantian with two seals.
Inscriptions: To the top-right, inscribed with a poem about the ripples created in water from the movement of wishes and falling branches. Signed ‘In the summer of the year Renxu, painted by Shouping’ with two seals: Shouping and Nantian.
Condition: Wear, browning of paper, stains, creasing, folds, otherwise presenting well. The mounting with traces of wear and age, minor losses along the edges.
