China, Han dynasty (202 BC-220 AD) or later. Carved as a standing figure wearing long robes, his hands clasped in front beneath his long sleeves. The figure has an elongated face, his pointed beard extending down his chest, and the hem of his robe and his belt are finely detailed with cross-hatched decorations. Pierced through the top for suspension. The translucent stone of a dark brown hue fading to yellow in the back with russet inclusions and clouding.
Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age, with wear. Signs of weathering and erosion, encrustations, small nicks, and minor nibbling to edges.
Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent.
