Japan, 18th century, Edo period (1615-1868)
Boldly carved as Chokaro sennin standing, his head raised straining against the weight of the large gourd shaped vessel (hyotan) resting on his shoulders. The immortal is dressed in an artemisia leaf robe and holds a blooming flower with both hands, the bearded sennin with an amused expression as he grins a toothy smile. Asymmetrical himotoshi to the back. The ivory with a smooth naturally grown honey-yellow patina.
HEIGHT 10 cm
Condition: Very good condition with expected surface wear and natural age cracks.
