Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)
Of upright rectangular shape, bearing a dense e-nashiji ground decorated with red speckles and kirigane flakes. Worked in gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e, depicting one crane on each side, each standing on a rocky outcrop and beneath a fine pine tree. The risers, as well as the top and underside, are decorated with karakusa (Chinese grasses). Signed to the underside KAJIKAWA saku [made by Kajikawa] with a seal. The interior compartments of nashiji with gold fundame edges.
With a polychrome cloisonne enamel ojime
LENGTH 4.4 cm, HEIGHT 7.6 cm
Condition: Good condition with minor wear and small losses to the kirigane flakes as well as few tiny lacquer flakes along the rims.
