The single-case inro or tonkotsu of upright form and oval section, decorated to the front with a large hydrangea blossom inlaid in raden with foliage in stained bone, the verso with a pair of shears in mitsuda (pewter) and a bamboo hanakago in stained bone. Signed to the underside GYOKKO.
HEIGHT 4.9 cm, LENGTH 3.9 cm
Condition: Good condition with minor wear and expected losses to inlays. Repairs to one leaf.
Provenance: Collection of Maurice Feuillet (1873-1873), first sale 23-24 June 1938, lot 106.
The imagery together suggest the art of flower arrangement, known as Ikebana.
