A PALE-YELLOW GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE, 1740-1860
1740-1860年淺黃色料器鼻烟壺

China. Of elongated oval form, rising from a flared oval foot towards a slender waisted neck. The translucent glass of an even pale-yellow tone.
Provenance: From the collection of Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher (1919-2016), thence by descent in the same family. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher was a German-born Swiss resident and heiress to the hair care and cosmetics company Wella AG. She was a passionate collector and had amassed in her lifetime various important art collections, as well as one of the world’s most valuable collections of gems and minerals.
Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear, and little nibbling to the lip.
Stopper: Sapphire-blue glass stopper, metal spoon
Weight: 28 g
Dimensions: Height including stopper 67 mm. Diameter neck 11 mm and mouth 7 mm.
Yellow was generally reserved for Imperial use, although a variety of different yellow tones were produced at the Imperial glassworks throughout the Qing dynasty, ranging from this relatively pale color to a much richer egg-yolk tone.
Auction result comparison: Compare a related imperial yellow glass snuff bottle, dated 1720-1760, at Sotheby’s New York in Fine Chinese Ceramics & Works of Art on 31 March 2005, lot 502, sold for USD 10,200.

Once you have pre-registered for a live online auction, you can see your intended spend and bid limit by going to 'Account Settings' and clicking on 'Live Bidding Registrations'.
Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT. For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
