A YELLOW JADE ‘DRAGON AND PHOENIX’ PENDANT, WARRING STATES

Jade. China, Warring States period, 5th-3rd century BC
The jade is carved on one end in the form of a dragon depicted with circular eyes, a snout-like nose, interlinking with a phoenix, terminating with its head carved on the other end. The arched, s-shaped body with a furcated tail toward the center and decorated throughout with comma spirals.
The translucent stone is of an even yellow tone with russet and mottled brown patches as well as small areas of opaque calcification to the edges.
Auction comparison: Compare a closely related jade dragon-form pendant, of slightly smaller size (10 cm long) and dated to the Han dynasty, at Christie’s Hong Kong in Adorning the Kings - A Private Collection of Archaic Jade Ornaments on 31 May 2017, lot 2723 (sold for HKD 275,000), and a pair of closely related dragon and phoenix pendants (the larger 11 cm long), also dated to the Warring States period, at Christie’s Hong Kong in Chinese Archaic Jades From The Yangdetang Collection Part II on 28 November 2018, lot 2755 (sold for HKD 875,000).

For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
