A CELADON JADE ‘CHILONG’ ORNAMENT, YUAN TO MING DYNASTY
元至明代青玉螭龍裝飾

China, 1279-1644. The jade finely carved in openwork as a coiled chilong, neatly incised with a distinct mane, bulging eyes, a wide nose with flaring nostrils, and small ears. The jade is of an elegant pale celadon tone with cloudy gray inclusions and shows a fine polish overall.
Provenance: English trade.
Condition: Condition commensurate with age showing minor old wear, few small losses, and chips to the jade. The letter opener with extensive traces of use, minor nicks and shallow surface scratches.
Weight: 125.6 g
Dimensions: Length 22.2 cm (total length) and 4.5 cm (the jade)
The jade is mounted to a brass letter opener dating to circa 1900 with incised and ring-punched decoration on both sides depicting sinuous dragons amid clouds. (2)

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT. For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
