AN IRON-RED, YELLOW AND GREEN ENAMELED ‘EQUESTRIAN’ DISH, MING DYNASTY

Lot details

China, 16th century. The dish with rounded sides rising from a short, tapering foot, painted in iron-red, green, and yellow enamels above the white glazed ground, featuring an equestrian accompanied by his attendant in the central roundel, encircled by stylized leaves, and the cavetto decorated with a band of floral sprigs below a decorative border. The exterior similarly decorated with floral sprays within double lines. The recessed base with an iron-red single-character mark Xian within a double circle.

Provenance: The Collection of Sam and Myrna Myers, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear and firing irregularities including warping, minor fritting, and little pitting, a hairline and a shallow chip to the rim, minor rubbing to enamels.

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT.  For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
