Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)
Of square form, standing on four feet, finely decorated with gold iro-e hiramaki-e on a kinji and roiro ground. The flat inrobuta (flush-fitting) lid depicts a go board, with the sides showing scrolls, and the roiro ground embellished with kinpun. The underside and interior of nashiji with gold fundame rims, further decorated with waves.

Provenance: From the Hiratsuka family collection.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear, tiny nicks, few dents, a small crack to one corner and a stain to the underside.
With a wood tomobako (storage box) inscribed Goban Kobako No. 279, 碁盤 香筥 二七九号, [Go board incense box No. 279] and No. 28 makie Gobangata Kobon Hiratsuka-ke zo, 第二十八号 まき絵 碁盤形 香盆 平塚家蔵, [No. 28 makie Go board shape incense try Hiratsuka family collection], Higashiyama-dono Omono-utsushi, 東山殿御物写, [Copy of the Higashiyama-dono treasures]. The main points include the following:
- Bidders must complete their due diligence and clarify all questions about the objects before the auction. After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
- A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
- A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.
