China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Each raised on a cube decorated with red and green foliate blossoms, one surmounted by a figure of a seated monkey, and the other with a lion.
Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by second generation members of the Holzapfel family after 1970 and has remained in the family ever since.
Condition: Good condition with wear and firing flaws including dark spots and glaze recesses. Fritting to the edge of the base and minuscule losses. Touchups to the lion’s ear.
