AN ‘IMITATION JADE’ WHITE GLASS BOWL, MID-QING DYNASTY
清代中期仿白玉玻璃碗

Sold for €325

including Buyer's Premium

Lot details

Please note this Lot is to be sold at No Reserve. 本拍品不設底價

Expert’s note
: Glass copies of white jade bowls were quite popular among Beijing craftsmen because in the medium of glass, it was substantially easier to conform to Imperial ideals – masterfully equilibrated proportions and distinct yet deceptively simple features such as the slanted lip – which required painstaking effort from jade carvers.

China, Beijing, late 18th to early 19th century. The bowl carved with deep rounded sides rising to a gently flared rim with a neatly slanted lip, all supported on a slightly splayed, massive foot. The translucent glass of an even white tone.

Provenance: London trade.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and manufacturing irregularities, minuscule chips to the foot rim.

Weight: 178.5 g
Dimensions: Diameter 9.8 cm
