China, 1644-1912 or later. Delicately potted with deep rounded sides supported on a tall hollow stem and rising to an everted rim, finely decorated to the exterior in copper-red with the silhouettes of three evenly spaced fish.

Provenance: Portuguese trade.
Condition: Minor wear, small firing irregularities, microscopic dark spots, and fitted with six silvered metal brackets. The bowl has not been inspected underneath these brackets, which cannot be removed. The foot smoothened and shortened with an associated bruise to the foot’s rim.

The base with an apocryphal underglaze-blue six-character mark da Ming Xuande nianzhi.

For the Ming prototype of this stem bowl, compare the Xuande-marked example included in the Exhibition of Imperial Porcelain of the Yongle and Xuande Periods Excavated from the Site of the Ming Imperial Factory at Jingdezhen, Hong Kong, 1989, cat. no. 77.

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT.  For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
