AN IMPERIAL-YELLOW ‘DRAGON’ CARPET, REPUBLIC PERIOD

China, 1912-1949. The finely woven wool rug with a central dragon encircled by clouds and lotus scroll, surrounded by butterflies and antique vessels holding flowers, the corners with foliate scroll, all enclosed by a dotted border surrounded by a band of shaped reserves with prunus against a wan ground and a band of alternating lotus scroll and overlapping coins.
Provenance: French market, by repute from an old private estate in Paris.
Condition: Good condition with some smaller areas footworn to a certain degree. The hem recently renewed. Fresh and elegant colors.
Dimensions: Size 355 x 267 cm
Auction result comparison: Compare a closely related carpet, dated to the second quarter of the 20th century, at Christie’s Amsterdam in European Noble and Private Collections on 14 December 2011, lot 532, sold for EUR 9,375.

Intended Spend and Bid Limits
When you register to bid in an online auction, you will need to share your intended maximum spending budget for the auction. We will then review your intended spend and set a bid limit for you. Once you have pre-registered for a live online auction, you can see your intended spend and bid limit by going to 'Account Settings' and clicking on 'Live Bidding Registrations'.
Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT. For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
