China, 1780-1860. The deep rounded sides supported on a short and slightly tapered food, the rims gilt, the exterior finely decorated in bright enamels with stylized lotus flowerheads and scrolling vines against a turquoise ground, a band of pendent ruyi heads below the rim, the foot with a band of foliate scroll against a blue ground below a blue lappet border.

Provenance: The Mobile Museum of Art, Alabama, USA, sold to benefit their Collections, Care and Acquisitions Fund. British trade, acquired from the above. Since its founding in 1963 as a public-private entity then known as the Mobile Art Gallery, the museum has a collection of over 6,400 artworks comprised of painting, sculpture, and decorative arts. The Asian Collection contains selections of works ranging from ancient Chinese bronzes and ceramics to early 20th-century works and includes the David and Inger Duberman Collection of Chinese Cloisonné from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
Condition: Very good condition with some wear, particularly to gilt, and expected manufacturing flaws, such as pitting. Minor nicks, losses, crackling and light scratches.

Intended Spend and Bid Limits

When you register to bid in an online auction, you will need to share your intended maximum spending budget for the auction. We will then review your intended spend and set a bid limit for you. Once you have pre-registered for a live online auction, you can see your intended spend and bid limit by going to 'Account Settings' and clicking on 'Live Bidding Registrations'. 

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT.  For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.

Galerie Zacke is honored to present Fine Chinese Art, Buddhism & Hinduism, a two-day premium auction. On Day 2, 458 lots will be offered, spanning the entire range of Chinese, Buddhist, and Hinduist art, from bronzes and sculptures to porcelain and paintings.

Extensively researched, the two-day auction features 151 named provenances. Highlights include important names in the industry, such as Linda Wrigglesworth, Susan Chen, Charlotte Horstmann, Hisazo Nagatani, Dr. Wou Kiuan, E & J Frankel, Robert Kleiner, Marchant & Son, Sam Bernstein, Sydney Moss, Hugh Moss, Roger Keverne, A & J Speelman, Hedda and Lutz Franz, the Bernheimer Collection, Leo Diamond, Acher Eskenasy, and Captain Charles Oswald Liddell. Important Changes to Our Terms and Conditions

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our auctions fair and transparent, we recently updated our terms and conditions. We encourage you to read through these updates carefully (§34-50) to make sure you understand them. These updates are specifically designed to protect all serious and committed buyers from bidding against non-payers, who attempt to inflate prices without the intent of paying their auction bills.

Main points include:

  • Bidders must complete their due diligence and clarify all questions about the objects before the auction. After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
  • A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
  • A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.
