A GILT-BRONZE AND CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL ‘CRICKET’ VASE, HU, JIAQING PERIOD

Lot details

China, 1796-1820. The globular body rising from a splayed foot to a waisted neck, flanked by two Buddhist lion mask handles suspending loose cloisonné rings, decorated with a wide band depicting lotus, peony, and chrysanthemums sprouting amid rockwork, and a cricket perched on leaves, all on a dusky-pink wan-diaper ground that is characteristic of the period.

Provenance: Austrian trade. The base with an old inscription in black ink ‘…800…’. The inset similarly inscribed ‘c 966’.
Condition: Good condition with old wear, minor encrustations and verdigris, and manufacturing irregularities including expected pitting, minuscule nicks to enamels, few minor dents to the body, a hole drilled through the base and inset. The wood base with a loss to one foot and a fine, golden-brown patina overall.

Dimensions: Height 29.5 cm (excl. base) and 39 cm (incl. base)

With a finely carved wood base dated to the later Qing dynasty. The vase with a European gilt-metal inset for flowers. (3)

The foot with a band of key-fret and blossoms above the lozenge border. The neck decorated with a triangular border, and floral bands framing two rows of stylized Shou characters.

中國, 1796-1820年。壼銅胎質,盤口,束頸溜肩,垂腹,下承外撇盤口,高圈足。口沿、圈足及雙耳鎏金,頸部兩側各飾一組獅首活環耳,鏨刻工藝極為精巧。壺身朱紅地掐絲表現菊花、牡丹等花卉,花朵造型古樸典雅,枝葉線條俐落,掐絲工藝繁而不亂,鮮豔而絢麗。一隻大蟋蟀停留在花上,自然生動。

來源:奧地利古玩交易市場。底部有黑墨書寫的 ‘…800…’字樣,壺内有相似的字樣 ‘c 966’。
品相:品相良好,磨損、輕微的結殼和包漿,以及製造不規則之處,包括預期的點蝕、琺瑯上的微小刻痕和壺身上的一些輕微凹痕、底座穿孔。木質底座缺一隻腳,整體呈金棕色光澤。

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT.  For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
