A PINK TOURMALINE ‘PEACH AND BAT’ PENDANT, 19TH CENTURY
十九世紀粉紅碧璽福壽

Lot details

China. The flattened pendant is delicately carved as a group of peaches growing upon a leafy stem, with a bat perched on the largest of the fruit. The pendant is pierced at the top and strung with seed pearls and a small jadeite bead of deep emerald and apple green tone with white inclusions. The translucent stone of an intense pink color with pale inclusions.

Provenance: London trade.
Condition: Good condition with some old wear, a small nick to one leaf, minor nibbling to exposed areas. The stone with natural inclusions and fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks over time.

Weight: 18.9 g
Dimensions: Length 4.4 cm (the tourmaline)

The subject of peaches and bats is very popular in art of the Qing period because it is imbued with auspicious connotations. As peaches denote longevity and bats signify happiness, imagery combining peaches and bats represent the blessing ‘may you possess both longevity and happiness’.

中國。扁平的吊墜被精美地雕刻成樹枝樹葉間的桃子,一隻蝙蝠棲息在最大的桃子上。吊墜頂部穿孔,並串有珍珠和一顆深綠的小翡翠珠。深粉色半透明寶石,內含淺色內沁。

Intended Spend and Bid Limits

When you register to bid in an online auction, you will need to share your intended maximum spending budget for the auction. We will then review your intended spend and set a bid limit for you. Once you have pre-registered for a live online auction, you can see your intended spend and bid limit by going to 'Account Settings' and clicking on 'Live Bidding Registrations'. 

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT.  For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
