A FINE WHITE JADE ‘PEACH AND BAT’ PENDANT, QIANLONG PERIOD

Lot details

China, 1736-1795. The flattened peach with a twisting open worked stem allowing for suspension as a pendant, issuing neatly incised leaves curving delicately along the surface of the peach, a bat carved in low relief to one side with its wings partly extended and detailed with scroll designs. The translucent stone is of an even white tone. Superb polish, with an unctuous feel overall.

Provenance: UK trade.
Condition:
Very good condition with minor old wear and few minuscule nibbles.

The subject of peaches and bats is very popular in the arts of the Qing period because it is imbued with auspicious connotations. As peaches denote longevity and bats signify happiness, imagery combining peaches and bats represent the blessing ‘may you possess both longevity and happiness’.

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT.  For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
