A PALE CELADON JADE FIGURE OF A DUCK, 18TH CENTURY
十八世紀青玉鴨戲擺件

China. Carved as a reclining duck, with its head turned backwards holding a millet sprig in its beak, the neatly incised wings spreading over the body, the tail curled upwards. The translucent stone is of an elegant pale celadon tone with icy inclusions and scattered dark specks.
Provenance: From an estate in Boston, USA.
Condition: Excellent condition with some old wear and minuscule nicks here and there. The stone with natural inclusions and fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks over time.
Weight: 103.3 g
Dimensions: Length 8.4 cm
Ducks in China symbolize conjugal bliss and fidelity. Grains, including corn, millet, and wheat, were regarded in Chinese culture as auspicious symbols of fertility and prosperity with their many seeds and kernels. The depiction of ducks grasping millet stalks in their beaks thus represents a happy marriage with the blessings of many children.

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT. For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
