A JIZHOU TORTOISESHELL-GLAZED BOWL, SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY
南宋吉州窯玳瑁釉碗

China, 1127-1279. The deep rounded sides flaring out from a narrow flat foot and rising to a finger-grooved rim, covered overall with a finely crackled rust-brown glaze splashed with caramel in imitation of tortoiseshell, irregularly stopping above the foot and forming drops, the base left unglazed revealing the grayish-buff ware.
Provenance: From the collection of Sören Ström and thence by descent in the family. Sören Ström (1934-2021) was a notable Swedish art publisher and editor who collected Chinese art during the second half of the 20th century.
Condition: Old surface wear and traces of use as expected, minor chips, the rim with two repairs and touch-ups, some manufacturing flaws including fritting, slight warping, and firing flaws.

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT. For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
