A WUCAI ‘GALLOPING HORSES’ JAR AND COVER, SHUNZHI PERIOD

Lot details

China, 1644-1661. Of baluster form, the broad shoulders tapering to a flat base, surmounted by a slender cylindrical neck and domed cover, brightly painted in underglaze blue and enamels, with an overall pattern of four horses galloping above tall mountain peaks and amidst various auspicious emblems, all reserved on a dense ground of swirling iron-red waves capped with green froth and dotted with plum blossoms, the neck with a geometric border, the cover with a similar design framed by swirls.

Provenance: British trade. By reputed acquired from a private estate in London.
Condition: Good overall condition with extensive old wear, small chips to the cover’s rim, glaze flakes, a hairline to the rim, and manufacturing flaws including fritting, pitting, firing cracks, dark spots, and kiln grit – all as expected from 17th-century Wucai wares.

Dimensions: Height 40 cm (excl. base) and 45.3 cm (incl. base)

With a fitted circular wood base dating to the late Qing dynasty. (2)

順治五彩奔馬將軍罐
中國,1644-1661年。罐身為直口,豐肩,斂腹,附寶珠頂高圓蓋。罐身鐵紅釉旋渦狀紋理為地,五彩描繪山間四匹奔騰駿馬,四周點綴吉祥圖案,點綴著梅花,頸部有蕉葉紋。

來源:英國古玩交易,據說購於倫敦私人收藏。
品相:整體狀況良好,有大量磨損、蓋口邊緣有小缺口、釉面剝落、邊緣有細裂紋,有製造缺陷,包括熔塊、點蝕、燒製裂紋、黑點和窯砂——所有這些都符合十七世紀五彩瓷器的狀況。

Intended Spend and Bid Limits

When you register to bid in an online auction, you will need to share your intended maximum spending budget for the auction. We will then review your intended spend and set a bid limit for you. Once you have pre-registered for a live online auction, you can see your intended spend and bid limit by going to 'Account Settings' and clicking on 'Live Bidding Registrations'. 

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT.  For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
