A RARE ‘COMPANION OF PINE AND MOON’ BRONZE CENSER, SONG YUE LÜ MARK, 17TH CENTURY
十七世紀”松月侶“ 款荷塘鴨戲銅爐

China. The massively cast tripod vessel is of compressed globular form, supported on three tapering feet, the shoulders set with a pair of simplistic loop handles, neatly incised to each side with mythical beasts. The body finely decorated with two reserves depicting geese in a lotus pond, all finely engraved in high relief.
Inscriptions: Neatly cast seal mark to the base, ‘Song Yue Lü’ (Companion of Pine and Moon).
Provenance: British trade.
Condition: Very good condition with old wear, minute nicks here and there, minor casting irregularities, some encrustations to the handles, and a fine naturally grown patina overall.

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT. For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
