† A LARGE THANGKA DEPICTING VAJRAPANI, TIBET, 19TH CENTURY

Distemper and gold on cloth. Finely painted as a blue-skinned Vajrapani striding on a lotus base, wielding a vajra in his raised right hand with his left hand held in karana mudra, wearing a tiger-skin and billowing scarves, richly adorned in gold jewelry. His face bearing a fierce expression, his figure entirely enveloped in a flaming nimbus surrounded by thick smoke. The central figure is encircled by numerous bodhisattva and monks, centered at the top by Amitabha Buddha, each seated on a lotus pedestal with a gold nimbus and surrounded by colorful clouds.
Provenance: Acquired by the father of the present owner in Tibet around 1970 and thence by descent.
Condition: Extensive wear, fading, creases, folds, fraying to edges, and losses, overall presenting very well.

Compare a related thangka of Mahakala, 75.6 x 48.9 cm, dated 19th century, in the Norton Simon Museum, accession number P.2001.07.

For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our auctions fair and transparent, we encourage you to read our terms and conditions thoroughly. These terms are specifically designed to protect all serious and committed buyers from bidding against non-payers who attempt to inflate prices without the intent of paying their auction bills.

The main points include the following:
- Bidders must complete their due diligence and clarify all questions about the objects before the auction. After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
- A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
- A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.
