The back inscribed ‘V2626’ above an old label from Aitken Dott & Son, an Edinburgh firm founded by Aitken Dott (1815-1892) as carvers, gilders, and frame makers in 1842. They were renowned for providing bespoke frames and other art supplies for both artists and galleries across Scotland. It was continued by George Proudfoot (1873-1943) and is now the oldest commercial gallery still trading in Scotland.
