A PALE CELADON JADE ‘PEONY AND CHRYSANTHEMUM’ SNUFF BOTTLE, POSSIBLY IMPERIAL, 1750-1850

Opinion: The bottle’s superb hollowing, executed in the shape of a fan with remarkably thin walls, allows for the bottle’s actual fill level to be clearly monitored through the transparent stone, an ingenious and quite unique feature which, at the very least, points toward an 18th century date.
China. Superbly hollowed, of flattened baluster form, the tapering sides resting on a small recessed oval base, rising to a high shoulder and a short waisted neck with flat lip, both sides neatly incised with peony and chrysanthemum. The translucent stone of a pale celadon tone with cloudy white inclusions.
Provenance: British trade.
Condition: Excellent condition with minor old wear, few light surface scratches. Natural inclusions to the stone.

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT. For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
