北宋至金定窯

Sold for €3,640

including Buyer's Premium

Lot details

China, 12th-13th century. Thinly potted with deep, gently rounded sides supported on a short circular foot. Finely molded to the inner cavetto with a central whorl surrounded by a band of pomegranates on leafy stems below a key-fret band encircling the rim. The bowl is covered in an ivory-white glaze darkening in the recesses and accentuating the fine molding, with attractive pooling to the exterior forming vitreous and bubble-suffused areas.

Provenance
: New York trade.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, and manufacturing irregularities including dark spots and pottery lines. The rim may once have been covered by a metal lining.

Weight: 75.5 g
Dimensions: Diameter 10.6 cm

Molded decoration on Ding wares was adopted in the latter part of the Northern Song dynasty and flourished during the Jin dynasty. The molding technique allowed the Ding potters to adopt more complex and formal designs. The molds used were meticulously crafted and similar to those used to cast decoration on gold and silver works of art.
