Lot 82 (TWO-DAY AUCTION - Fine Chinese Art / 中國藝術集珍 / Buddhism & Hinduism, 5th March 2021)
China, 1368-1644. Of compact pebble-like form, well carved in the round as a recumbent goose with its feet tucked underneath and head turned back over its body, with details such as wings and feathers neatly incised, the stone an opaque creamy beige with patches of russet and black particularly to one side.
Provenance: British private collection.
Condition: Very good condition with old wear, the piece having clearly been handled extensively over centuries and the stone with a smooth, unctuous feel, minor nibbling, few signs of erosion, the stone with natural fissures, some of which have developed into small cracks over time.

中國,1368-1644年。形狀緊湊,呈鵝卵石狀,表面潤澤。雕刻成斜臥的鵝,鵝掌藏氣,頭朝身體上方轉,翅膀和羽毛細節刻畫生動。玉石不透明的灰白色,上面有赤褐色的斑點和黑色紋理,尤其是一側。

Our two-day premium auction features 782 stunning lots, many of museum quality, with 152 named provenances ranging from museum deaccessions to notable collectors, and from the intriguing to the illustrious. Among these are the last emperor of Vietnam, the personal physician of Puyi, the Commander of the German Marine for East Asia, the Deputy Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia, the Rockefeller and Rothschild families, Cardinal Neri Maria Corsini, the granddaughter of the Coca-Cola founder, noted artists Lindy Guinness, Lü Xiaguang and Zhou Shengli as well as historic dealerships Bluett, Spink, Rare Art, Vermeer & Griggs, Roger Keverne, Nicholas Grindley, Eileen Kershaw, Myrna Myers, Dr. Otto Burchard, only to name very few. On the first day of the auction, 409 lots will be offered, including Works of Art; Hardstones, Jades and Seals; Ceramics and Porcelain; and Snuff Bottles. The second day will see the remaining 373 lots fall under the hammer, including Bronzes and Sculptures; Organic Material and Furniture; Thangkas, Textiles and Paintings; and, last but not least, Buddhism and Hinduism.
