A MINIATURE ZUSHI (PORTABLE BUDDHIST SHRINE) WITH SENJU KANNON

Japan, Mid-Edo period (1615-1868)
The Bodhisattva finely carved standing atop a lotus dais raised on an elaborate tiered balustrade base, numerous secondary arms radiating around the body, holding attributes, the principal hands held in anjali mudra above a further pair of hands lowered in jo-in at the hips, dressed in loose-fitting robes, the hair arranged in a tall chignon and with a metal headdress. The shrine covered in gold lacquer with hinged doors and metal fittings, the interior of the doors decorated with clouds.

Condition: Overall good condition with some wear. The figure with tiny losses and repairs.
Provenance: From the private collection of Maurice Garçon, collection number 76, the label lost. Maurice Garçon (1889-1967) was a French novelist, historian, essayist and lawyer, known for his works ‘Le destin exécrable de Guillemette Babin’ (1948) and ‘Avec André Gide’ (1951) among others.

Once you have pre-registered for a live online auction, you can see your intended spend and bid limit by going to 'Account Settings' and clicking on 'Live Bidding Registrations'.
Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT. For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
