Lot details

Tibet, 18th to first half of the 19th century. Seated in lalitasana on a double lotus base with beaded rims, one hand raised before the chest in vitarka mudra, the other in varada mudra, adorned in beaded jewelry and wearing a long dhoti with finely incised, floral hems, the face downcast with a gentle smile, surmounted by a two-tiered chignon and flanked by pendulous earlobes.

Provenance: German private collection. Zacke, Vienna, November 2015, lot 74. Austrian private collection, acquired in the German trade.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear, manufacturing irregularities, losses to the inlays, earrings, and accoutrements, few cracks, rubbing to the gilt, and small dents, one dent to the arm with a tiny tear. The interior with few malachite encrustations.

Weight: 394 g
Dimensions: Height 21.7 cm

Expert’s note: The present image, distinguished by the pendent foot not resting upon a small lotus base as is typically depicted, represents the rare form of Khadiravani Tara, the ‘Tara of the Acacia Forest’. In this manifestation, Tara is revered as the compassionate protectress who delivers beings from the Eight Dangers—lions representing pride, elephants symbolizing delusion, fire for anger, snakes for envy, robbers for wrong views, imprisonment for avarice, floods for desire, and demons for doubt.

Our Terms and Conditions

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our auctions fair and transparent, we encourage you to read our terms and conditions thoroughly. We urge you to read through §34-50) to ensure you understand them. These terms are specifically designed to protect all serious and committed buyers from bidding against non-payers who attempt to inflate prices without the intent of paying their auction bills.

The main points include the following:

  • Bidders must complete their due diligence and clarify all questions about the objects before the auction. After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
  • A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
  • A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.
