Viewing in Person

Our gallery is open Monday to Friday, from 10 AM to 6 PM Central European Time (CET), as well as by appointment. Please check the exact viewing dates in our catalogs, as times may vary.

Estimates and Starting Prices

The auction will begin with the starting price listed in the catalog. The estimate price reflects our opinion of minimum value.

Hidden Reserves

Typically, only a minority of all items in an auction have a hidden reserve. Reserves are the lowest price a consignor will accept for an item. You may request to see the reserve for a specific lot by emailing us at office@zacke.at or calling us at +43-1-532 04 52.

Conditional Sales

If a reserve is not reached, we may knock down an item to the highest bidder at a lower price, but the sale will be conditional until the consignor has agreed to this lower bid. Consignors have 8 days to accept or reject a lower price.

Buyer's Premium and VAT

The hammer price does not include the buyer's premium and VAT. All successful bids are subject to a buyer's premium of 30%, including VAT.

Third-Party Fees

If you bid with one of our third-party online partners, then there will be a live bidding surcharge on top of the hammer price. You can find all of our fees here. We partner with the following platforms:

  • 51 Bid Live
  • EpaiLive
  • ArtFoxLive
  • Invaluable
  • LiveAuctioneers

Absentee and Telephone Bids

By leaving an absentee bid or telephone bid, you are registering for one of our auctions. We will contact you when your bids have been confirmed.

In order to leave an absentee bid or telephone bid online, you will need to create an online account first.

Zacke Live Online Bidding

Our new online bidding platform makes it easier than ever to bid in our auctions! When you bid through our website, you can take advantage of our premium buyer's terms without incurring any additional online bidding surcharges.

To bid live online, you'll need to create an online account. Once your account is created and your identity is verified, you can register to bid in an auction up to 12 hours before the auction begins.

Intended Spend and Bid Limits

When you register to bid in an online auction, you will need to share your intended maximum spending budget for the auction. We will then review your intended spend and set a bid limit for you. Once you have pre-registered for a live online auction, you can see your intended spend and bid limit by going to 'Account Settings' and clicking on 'Live Bidding Registrations'.

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT.  For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.

Deposits

We may at our discretion require a deposit before you can bid. If you are bidding on Zacke Live, then the deposit will usually be a percentage of your bid limit.

Absentee Bidding

Absentee bids are an incredibly convenient way to participate in our auctions. When you leave an absentee bid, we will confidentially bid on your behalf. Absentee bids must be equal to or greater than the starting price. Please submit all absentee bids at least 12 hours before an auction begins.

Online Absentee Bids

You can now leave absentee bids on our website! Once you've created an account and your identity is verified, you can leave your absentee bid directly on the lot page. We will contact you when your bids have been confirmed.

Absentee Bidding Form

Telephone Bidding

It is generally possible to bid by telephone during the auction. We offer telephone bidding in English, Chinese and German. We will call you on the day of the auction, shortly before the lot you are bidding on. If we cannot reach you by phone during the auction, then as a courtesy we will bid on your behalf up to the estimate.

Online Telephone Bidding Form

If you would like to participate in telephone bidding, you can fill out our new online Telephone Bidding Form. Please double-check your telephone number and the lot numbers you list on the form to make sure everything is correct.

Offline Telephone Bidding Form

To participate in telephone bidding and register offline, you can fill out an absentee bidding form and write "TEL" in the "bid in euro" column. We will contact you when your bids have been confirmed. Please double-check your telephone number and the lot numbers you list on the form to make sure everything is correct.

Some items available in our auctions may consist of ivory, rhinoceros horn, tortoise shell, coral, or rare types of tropical wood. These items are subject to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). They can be shipped anywhere within the European Union but may only be exported outside of the European Union with an export permit from the Austrian authorities. These permits are typically not granted. Exceptions may apply for items that:

  • Have a low amount of endangered material
  • Have passed stringent requirements proving that the item arrived in the European Union before 1982

If either of the above two exceptions apply, please contact us at office@zacke.at or +43-1-532 04 52 for more information on how to obtain a CITES license.

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our auctions fair and transparent, we recently updated our terms and conditions. We encourage you to read through these updates carefully (§34-50) to make sure you understand them. These updates are specifically designed to protect all serious and committed buyers from bidding against non-payers, who attempt to inflate prices without the intent of paying their auction bills.

For further reading about non-payers at auction, go here: https://www.zacke.at/aboutnonpayers/.

Main points include:

  • Bidders must complete their due diligence and clarify all questions about the objects before the auction. After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
  • A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
  • A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.

If you have any questions about our policies, please contact us at office@zacke.at.
