A NEOLITHIC INDUS VALLEY OR MEHRGARH TERACOTTA FIGURE

Indus valley or Mehrgarh, Neolithic (7000 – 1300 BCE)

Of figural shape made from fired clay, mounted on a modern styrofoam base and depicting a standing female figure with, for the period, characteristic hairstyle and stately breasts – a symbol of fertility. Some of the oldest terracotta human figures known in South Asia are from Mehrgarh, however this piece shows influences from both Indus valley and Mergarh periods.

Dimensions: HEIGHT without base 11.8 CM
Condition: Age-related condition, well-preserved however missing one of the arms
