To one side the exterior of this large and heavy Zitan brushpot is carved with knots and recesses in order to simulate a gnarled section of a tree trunk. In the lower right of this side we find the artist signature and seal. The other side shows a picturesque landscape with a large tree and a footbridge. Seven scholars can be seen studying a scroll and two young disciples are accompanying the literati.
