A TIBETAN MINIATURE BRONZE OF BHAISAJYAGURU, 18TH-19TH CENTURY

Tibet, 18th to 19th century

Bhaisajyaguru is the Buddha of healing and medicine in Mahayana Buddhism and often referred to as the Medicine Buddha. This work shows him seated in padmasana on a lotus throne and holding a twig from a myrobalan tree in his right hand. His other hand is flat on his lap and used to hold his alms bowl, which is missing.

Dimensions: HEIGHT 3.45 CM
Condition: The alms bowl is missing, otherwise good condition
Provenance: Galerie Zacke archive; previously in a German private collection and acquired between 1970 and 1980.
